THE MYTHOLOGY BEHIND MARATHON: According to mythology, in the war of Marathon, Athens won against Persia. That made a person called Phiedippides run from the battlefield so that he could convey the news to his countrymen. He started running and went on running till he reached Athens and doing so he ran 42.195 km. and died immediately after doing his job (i.e. conveying the god news of joy).In 1921, The International Ammeture Athletic Foundation accepted this distance to be run in the marathon. Herefrom came the concept of Marathon.
