Science ahead Superstitions--

Nothing can be more fascinating when you juxtapose two entirely different paradigms of Knowledge

Have anyone thought about the background of some prevalent soceital superstitions --Lets have a look into some among them:

1. Felines crossing your way--
In the previous times there was not much machinery and technology. People used to reap crops, vegetables and other manufactured products to make business transactions. There were only carts to transport & travel in those times if one wish to go to other town for any purpose.

Travel usually was done via carts pulled by bullocks, mules or horses. Travel in those times involved long itinerary in which they had to cross fields, jungles etc and travel could be any long from a day to weeks.

So when a cart is on move and if some Cat (again it could be anything like tiger, jaguar, panther etc not just domestic/ black cat that we call today) crosses the way, that bullock, mule or horse get scares at the sight of that ferocious animal.

Since the journey is long and animal is scared, driver steps out of the cart and used to run his hands around the neck to calm them. This process takes a couple of minute and once the animal is fine and relaxed, they could resume their journey.
Over the ages, this logic or fact kept deteriorating as it kept passing over to generations and real CAT and actual reason to make a halt was long forgotten.

People still believe it without knowing the logic behind and thus a basic fact became a superstition.

2. People are suggested to sit facing the East whole studying

this was because ancient/Vedic man used to sit and garner knowledge udner the sobre shade of trees and invariably during the morning--the so called Brahmamuhrtam (sunrise). Thus the Sun been in the East would make him sit towards the East to gather knowledge --plain and simple.

same theory follows for --keep the Kitchen on facing the East.
Well, in a generation ahving no electricities, Kitchen had to be faced to the east and cooking done in the mornings. Now poor they din't have refrigerators, anf the food had to be consumed, as there were no modes for preservation.

3. No garlic/onion or any other non-veg food on specified days like Puja/tuesdays/Monday/Saturday

before connecting to the main fact lets first correlate these aforesaid days to the respective deities so far as the Hindu mythology goes.. Like Lord hanuman is venerated on Tuesdays, Saturday of for Shani Devata (super powerful :/) and Monday invariably for our beloved lord Shiva. Now lets come to the scientific part. Pujas are considered to be religious practices where the devotee devotes his mind and soul invariably to the service of God.

Garlic/onion/ any kind of non-veg food are related to the augmented libidos or sexual desires, which the devotee needs to refrain from and hence this theory

4. Curd-sugar before some exam/Interviews--

It is considered good to have a spoon of curd mixed with little sugar before moving out for any important task like taking exam, interviews etc.
----Curd soothes your stomach and gives a cool soothing to body and mind. Sugar, as source of instant energy, is mixed to make a great combinations. This mixture is also considered as thirst reliever.
Thus, having a spoon will keep your mind and stomach better to concentrate on the work and also you won't feel thirsty so quickly.
That's it. Nothing complicated about it.

5. Always Sleep with ya Head towards the South--
The North-South magnetic axis affects our bodies at a micro level without us realising it. Since our body is like a magnet, with the North Pole at the Head, one should avoid sleeping with the feet facing South as the  head in the North will repel the magnetic North of the Earth, causing some irritations in the mind.

6. Other small things are like--
--------Dwaja sthambham (long pillar in front of temples)
reason: They work as Lightening arrestors
--------HARATHI , given in temples
reason: inhaling Camphor is good for health .
